Put simply, a web site is an ever-expanding notice board, hosted on the Internet.
Okay, i'll admit that it's a very clever notice board with many added benefits that we'll get into shortly, but that's really what it is in a nutshell.
If you can picture a notice board on your fridge, they usually have reminder notes on them such as phone numbers, addresses and family messages etc. Many people use a 'personal' website for their fridge door memos today because it opens up the fridge door to their whole network of friends. That type of site is called a '
social networking' website.
These days most business use a 'business website' as their new 'sales counter' because it's very cost efficient to do so. A helpful business website usually includes detailed information on the business, and the products and services on offer etc. It might also include a contact form for clients to contact the business direct from their site (more on forms later).

Now if I can push your imagination a bit more, can you picture a notice board in a shopping centre? They usually have all sorts of adverts and information for all types of things. Usually it lists the bargains for sale locally and includes contact details so you can get in touch with the person who placed the notice. Our own BendigoLive.com is this type of 'notice board' and that type of website is called a '
Community Portal'.
