Getting Your Website Started
Preparing for your website project is much easier than you would imagine. This project is going to be quite enjoyable, so don't think of it as a drudgery! It won't take much time away from your work schedule and you'll be amazed how smoothly it can progress. While working on your website, we can have a relationship that will hopefully be pleasant for both of us.
| The design of your website can be achieved in several ways:
Some clients have a clear vision of how they want their website to look, so we work together to achieve that result.
Some clients have no vision of what they want and ask us to design and create it from start to finish, with minor adjustments along the way.
Some clients have an idea of what they want, but don't know how to make their information and message cohesive.
Some clients have a color scheme in mind and some don't. Some have photos and some don't. Some don't even have text for us to work with, but it's all fine.
There are endless combinations of client/web designer relationships we've worked with, and we will always do our best to accommodate all of them. |
Website Marketing Tips:
We strongly recommend use of CLIENT TESTIMONIALS that your customers have provided you (on your products or services). These comments will go a long way in validating your business reputation and help increase your customer base. We've had a number of web clients who say their new customers love the fact that they feel like they already know them personally once they have viewed their website information!
Detailed text descriptions are very necessary, but we'll also want to break up the text using crisp, clear photographs of your services, products or completed projects or other graphics as fantastic visual reinforcement. If you don't have any, We'll be happy to locate some inexpensive royalty-free stock photos to use very effectively.
When writing text content for the home page, be sure to use words and phrases that are positively descriptive in telling how your services or products are superior such as "FAST - EASY - A GOOD VALUE." Tell the viewers WHY you make these claims. We'll make this type of info the most prominent.
NOTE ON having an Email Link IN YOUR WEBSITE: If you are not someone who checks your email at least every two days, we would not recommend that you have an email link in your web pages. You don't want neglected email responses to annoy potential clients/customers! If you are too busy to check your email, then it's better to have have the website guide people to call you or come into your location.
Things we will need for your project:
YOUR DOMAIN NAME: Your domain name is your internet address name that will be registered and reserved for your use. It belongs to you only as long as you renew it.
HOSTING ACCOUNT: We will need to set you up a hosting account to keep your website up on the internet. (We can assist you with this or take care of doing it for you.) We have had some bad experiences with a number of hosting companies because they are vastly different and we have our own NOT APPROVED list, so please confer with us beforehand since we're the one having to deal with the variety of hosting set-ups and customer services.
YOUR PHOTOS AND GRAPHICS: We'll need your photos, artwork or logo graphics. We prefer to use the original unedited photos for clarity. PLEASE KEEP YOUR ORIGINALS
You can email photos to us at admin@multikeys.com but be sure you tell us you sent them there in a separate email as sometimes they are trapped in a spambox.
It might be easier for you to take your digital camera to a store that does photo processing, Kodak Shop/K-Mart, etc., where they will quickly and easily download the photos from your camera to a CD while you wait. That way you can drop off the CD with your details or mail it to:

We can scan photos, but the photo quality is not quite as good as being able to have them in digital format. If we have to scan many photos it will take more time, so let's discuss the possibility of a $45 charge for that service.
If you would like items returned, please be sure to mark them with your name, and provide stamped, self-addressed return mailing materials.
YOUR TEXT CONTENT: It may surprise you to learn that approximately 50% of our clients have us take care of most of their text content because they don't know what to write. If you have personal biographies or facts that are specific and pertinent, then please be sure to provide them. Here is a simple BIOGRAPHY suggestion sheet you can print out to use. Email us your WORD documents or PDF files. When planning the design layout it is important to know how much text content there will be.
COLOR SCHEME AND LAYOUT PREFERENCES: We'd like to know your color scheme and layout, IF YOU HAVE ONE. If you don't have one in mind, that's perfectly fine. About 75% of our clients ask us to take care of designing the whole website and we will certainly work the colors around your logo, or help you create a simple logo.
PROJECT TIMELINE: You wonder about your project timeline? First we will let you know exactly when we can start your project and will reserve that time slot for you at the time you pay your web project downpayment. How soon your project is finished will depend on how quickly you provide us with the information and materials needed to complete it. If we stop and start and have long lapses in-between, that can be a problem for our project scheduling and workflow. Sometimes there might be a $50 reactivation fee to return to a project that has been set aside due to your delays. Be aware that we schedule projects allotting time accordingly. If you are slow with your information, it will move you down in the project schedule and another client's project moves up. Service agreement >>
